The suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele has reportedly opted for a plea bargain, which may result in an indefinite shift in his arraignment in court.
According to sources,Emefiele and his his co-accused, Saadat Yaro, have opted for a plea bargain policy,as a way out to settle with the Federal Government, while the arraignment scheduled for Wednesday by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory was not stated on the cause list of the court this morning.
As a result,it was noticed that Emefiele and his co-defendant, Yaro ,along with their lawyers were not in court, with no security presence seen inside the court premises.
Sources said the arraignment that didn’t hold on Wednesday was to enable the detained CBN Governor and all parties involved in the case to come into an agreement, hence, the shift of the arraignment.
Kehinde Akinlolu (SAN),lawyer to Emefiele was also said to have confirmed the shift in the arraignment, and that a new date may likely be issued by the Chief Judge, Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf.
