An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan,has granted bail to the principal of Islamic High School, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi; the proprietor of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat; and Olori Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The bail was granted by Justice K.B. Olawoyin on Monday, January 13,2025,after almost a month of being in detention.
According to reports,the trio were granted bail after the judge listened to the arguments of their counsels.
Their predicament was as a result of the stampede that occurred at the school in Ibadan.
No fewer than thirty-five children died during the incident, which happened on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Being the organizers of the charity event that attracted the children and their parents who brought them,an Oyo State Magistrate Court in Iyaganku had ordered that the trio be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Facility.
The incident led to an outcry with divided opinions from the public.
While some blamed the organizers for lack of planning and security that led to the tragic incident, others blamed the parents of the children for storming the venue even before the scheduled time and their barbaric actions of throwing their children over the fence of the venue, leading to injury and fatality.
