Former senior pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, City of David Parish, Region 20, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, has resigned his appointment with the church, barely two weeks after he was suspended for 3 months by the church’s governing council.
The suspension may have been the church’s reaction to how a cross section of Nigerians frowned and aired their thoughts on how insensitive Iluyomade was to throw a lavish 60th birthday party for his wife in Lagos, soon after a prominent member and financier of the church, Herbert Wigwe, founding CEO of Access Holdings Plc, his wife, Chizoba and son died in a helicopter crash in the US on February 9.
The former Pastor in-charge of RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11, Pastor Charles Kpandei has since been seconded to the City of David Parish to take over from Pastor Iluyomade, who was soon transferred to the Throne of Grace branch, Ebute Metta, Lagos, which serves as the headquarter of the mission, by the church leadership, and was to resume for duty there as the pastor in charge of elders at the end of his suspension.
The transfer didn’t go down well with Iluyomade and his wife, Siju, both of who were conspicuously absent during church service this past Sunday when his transfer was announced.
Sources are alleging that Iluyomade dropped his resignation on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
