The government of Ondo State has dismissed the rumour circulating that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has died.
The said rumour began with a report that the governor was ill and in critical condition.
One report by Sahara Reporters reported that the Governor’s family had asked security agents and the politicians around him to turn off their phones to prevent photos of his alleged emaciated look from being leaked.
It was also allegedly reported that Governor Akeredolu had become bedridden and is set to be flown out of Nigeria on Saturday, due to his deteriorating health condition.
The publication reported that a source said;
“Governor Akeredolu is incapacitated and bedridden in his Ibadan home. His hands and legs are immovable. His wife and kids also abandoned him.
“He is unable to sign documents but he could still speak. Meanwhile, he has refused to hand over the affairs of government to his deputy.”
The Ondo state government reacted to all of the rumours being circulated about the state of Akeredolu’s health with a statement issued on Saturday, June 3, denying the claim that Governor Akeredolu has died, insisting that he is “hale and hearty”.
The statement reads;
“We have been inundated with calls and messages concerning the state of health of the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
“The governor is hale and hearty.
“We had chosen to ignore this wicked fabrication until it appeared that certain persons seek to draw political mileage from the disinformation.
“Though the governor has been indisposed, he has been attending to state matters and delegating functions to functionaries of the government, when necessary.
“We enjoin the members of the public to ignore the rumour. Aketi is very much alive.”
