Afrobeats superstar, Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor,was recently honoured by the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II,who presented him with a royal plaque.
The Oba gifted Rema the plaque on Thursday when he paid him a visit at his palace ahead of his homecoming concert at the Ogbe Stadium in Benin City.
Rema,who hails from Benin City,has been a proud ambassador of Edo State, promoting the state and legacy of the ancient Benin empire in his music and concerts.
Before this honour from the Oba of Benin,Rema had accompanied the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday, for the groundbreaking ceremony of Edo Arena,where the governor announced that the 6,000-capacity arena would be called Rema Dome,in honour of the singer.
According to Gov.Obaseki,Rema is an ambassador of Benin and Edo State.
Obaseki stated that the Rema Dome would boost the tourism potential of the state.
He explained that the Rema Dome would allow visitors to, “experience our rich culture and what we have to offer, which will create employment opportunities for our youths.”
