New Fuel Price Rejected By NLC

By Glam & Essence

The Nigeria Labour Congress has rejected the increased pump price of petrol to N617 by the federal government, coming barely two months after the recent price increase, following the removal of fuel subsidy.
According to the head of information and public affairs of the congress, Comrade Benson Upah, the increase poses a serious threat to the socio-economic well-being of the citizenry, who are already struggling to survive with their businesses and incomes.
For this reason, the NLC is asking the federal government to retrace its steps and rethink their planned move to make fuel hit N1,000 per liter,as this move will adversely affect the people and the economy.
Comrade Upah said,”we had said earlier that no reasonable government acting reasonably, leaves its national currency entirely to the storms of the Market as this could lead to unintended consequences”.
The new pump price is suggestive of the fact that the pump price could rise to N1000 or more per a litre any time soon. It makes planning difficult and life uncertain.”
He further stressed that the people are not happy, and their calmness should not be taken for granted in the face of the hardship that has continued to hit them since the new administration came to power.
