Lagos Lawmakers in Court Over Obasa’s Ousting

The 35 Lagos State House of Assembly members that supported the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, have appeared at the Lagos State High Court on Friday, February 28, for the hearing of a lawsuit filed by Obasa.
Obasa had gone to court to challenge his removal by the lawmakers on January 13, 2025, while he was reportedly out of the country.
The application filed by his lawyer, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN),on February 12,claimed that Obasa’s removal was unlawful.
The lawmakers who were in court on Friday February 28,were led by Speaker Meranda, and were represented by senior lawyers including Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), Femi Falana (SAN), Muiz Banire (SAN), and Abimbola Akeredolu (SAN).
The House has condemned and described as unconstitutional, the attempt by the former ex Speaker and three other lawmakers to convene a plenary session on Thursday
Spokesman for the State Assembly house, Hon. Steve Oyindipe,in a statement said the House reaffirmed its support for Speaker Meranda and dismissed rumours of her resignation, pledging to uphold parliamentary integrity and work in the interest of Lagosians.
