Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been under fire online,for calling his colleague, Damini Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy, a ‘new cat’,meaning he’s one of the newcomers dominating the music industry.
Davido said this during a recent interview,while taking about himself and his fellow colleagues in the industry.
The interview has since gone viral after the comment that didnt sit well with many viewers online.
Davido rated himself and Wizkid as the first young Nigerian artists to hit stardom,after which he said he was excited to see ‘new cats’ such as Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, and Asake now dominating the music industry.
Hear him,“Everybody knows now. I was one of the first. I and Wizkid were one of the first young artists to blow up and it feels good seeing new cats like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, you know a lot of new cats coming, killing it, Asake who was on my album.
“So, yes, I think the future of Afrobeat is in good hands”
This comment got a strong reaction from Burna Boy’s sister,Nissi,as she shared a video from Burna Boy’s concert on her Instagram page and wrote in Pidgin English, “New cats dey face their hustle”
Several Nigerians also shared their criticism of Davido on social media,by expressing their displeasure of his attempt to shade Burna Boy as a ‘New Cat’,calling it a disrespect of Burna Boy.
