Akwa Ibom-born Nigerian chef, 27-year-old Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci has kept her promise to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time by an individual.
Hilda not only broke the old record of 87 hours, 45 minutes, and secs, previously set in 2019 by indian Chef, Lata Tondon,by reaching 88 hours and 32 minutes by 08:32am on Monday, she went on to set an unbelievably new record of 100 hours of cooking by an individual to set a new Guiness World Record as she ended her cooking marathon.
Despite having broken the record of 96 hours that she initially planned to cook for by early Monday morning,thus breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual,Hilda suddenly m announced at 4pm that she was ready to reach the 100 hours of marathon cooking.
And at exactly 8pm on Monday,Hilda kept her word when she reached 100 hours of marathon cooking,making history as the first individual to achieve that feat, bringing to an end a journey she embarked on when the competition started on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at exactly 4pm when she turned on her cooker.
Hilda’s Cookathon journey soon gathered a huge support from Nigerians,both young and old,who turned up at the competition venue, Amore Gardens in the highbrow Lekki area of Lagos to urge her on.
Several celebrities from the entertainment industry also showed up to encourage Hilda in her bid to set the new Guiness record.
Some of the celebrities who turned up to support Hilda included Tiwa Savage,Charles Okafor,Segun Arinze,Kafee among several others.
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu also showed up to give Hilda his support,along with former Akwa Ibom governor,Senator Godswill Aphabio.
The church was brought to the cooking venue when the lead pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre in Lagos,Pastor Bolaji Idowu visited the chef to pray for her and give her some encouragement.
Support also came from other notable Nigerian leaders that included President-elect, Bola Tinubu, Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, former vice president, Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi,all of who showed their support for Hilda.
This is not Hilda’s first rodeo competing for a cooking competion,she
participated in the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021,and won.
This is however a big feat for the owner of a food company called My Food By Hilda,whose mother owns the food place called The Calabar Pot.
This amazing feat has brought her to the world’s space,especially since many didnt know Hilda until she embarked on this cooking journey to break the Guiness World Record for a cooking marathon by an individual.
