Social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and comedian, Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi, popularly known as Mr Jollof, have been detained by the airport security following a physical altercation that ensued between them during the boarding of Flight UN0523 at Asaba International Airport on Monday morning.
The video of the fight presently circulating on social media showed the two men throwing punches at each other in the aisle,as other passengers tried to separate them.
The airline confirmed the incident in a statement put out by its Public Relations Officer, Chibuike Uloka.
He said that ,“In full compliance with global aviation safety protocols, our crew responded immediately and professionally to de-escalate the situation. Both passengers were deboarded without delay to ensure the safety, comfort, and security of all other passengers and crew members. They were subsequently handed over to airport security for further investigation.”
The Nigerian carrier United Nigeria Airlines has handed over the video of the altercation to the airport security for further investigation.
In a post he made after landing, VDM explained what led to the confrontation. According to him ,that fight was the climax of weeks of online exchanges between himself and Mr Jollof. So when he saw him in person on the plane, VDM said he told him that , “Today, you will slap me.” He claimed that Mr Jollof it was who threw the first punch at him, prompting VDM to retaliate.
And during the scuffle between them,VDM claimed Mr Jollof bit him. Nigerians are reacting to the ugly incident ,with many demanding that both of them should be ban from flying for a period of time,while many are shocked by the lack of civility displayed by both men in public.
