Hours after the blaze at Afriland tower ,Lagos island was thrown into chaos on Tuesday night as Central Plaza, a bustling shopping complex on Broad Street,was gutted by fire.
The fire was said to have started around 7:40 pm,and soon spread fast,resulting in the collapse of part of the multi-storey building,leading to several people trapped inside,while others suffered severe injuries.
Traders with stores in the plaza were seen scrambling through smoke and falling debris to salvage goods,as emergency firefighters battled the inferno late into the night,an effort that was hampered by the collapse.
According to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,goods worth millions of naira were lost in the inferno
They,however,couldn’t confirm the full list of casualties affected by the fire incident.
The cause and effect of the twin blazes have yet to be determined
